  1. Save your buddy to Photos.
  2. Add a photo widget: use Apple's Photos widget with a dedicated album, or a photo-widget app from the App Store.
  3. Long-press the home screen, tap “+”, add the widget.
  4. Point it at your buddy. Done.

Android

  1. Save your buddy to your gallery.
  2. Use your launcher's photo-frame widget or a photo-widget app.
  3. Long-press the home screen → Widgets.
  4. Pick the photo widget, select your buddy. Done.
